So yeah you were promised “twice as rock” for this past Monday’s show… and we fuckin’ delivered!!!!
The Smooth Grooves reunion was sublime… Like the Ruins, Primus and Jimi Hendrix all jamming together. Anavan blasted into hyperspace, the “Denver dudes” (aka Vampire Pussy and Spellcaster) proved they are some of the best noise you could ever hope to hear, Holi Buffaglow was punk *and* funk, and Jamaica Man jammed free and got us all high!!!!
Add to all that musical goodness a video shoot for the new Mae Shi cover of that Miley Cyrus song, and this was the perfect Monday show… Kinda like a “happening,” man—like “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls” (my favorite movie) minus the acid. “THIS IS MY HAPPENING AND IT FREAKS ME OUT!”
This week I am doing two shows. Peter Moran organized the fest (and created perhaps my favorite poster of ALL TIME!) with Jonathan “Captain Ahab” Snipes, and I joined in the fun. I am doing wristbands for both, and I got them today… they are different than anything I’ve ever tried. VERY special. And Monday it’s Kyle and Josh’s last supergroup—Guns ‘n Broses with Grace Lee singing. Who else does a fest on a Sunday and a Monday?!?! Don’t miss out!

This past Monday’s show was a success in every way: great music (thanks to the bands, and Josh Taylor/Kyle Mabson who headed the whole thing up), a huge crowd, great friends, awesome door help (thanks, Stevie), and, of course, a great venue (cheers, Pehrspace!).
We were up against some fierce competition with beloved Monday Night friends playing simultaneous shows at the Smell (Abe Vigoda, Bipolar Bear) and the Echo (Rumspringa, Halloween Swim Team), but we still ended up with an incredible turnout—of almost entirely new folks, too. I love that! I love making new friends!
Which brings me to this… I didn’t really capture the atmosphere of the night in the photos below. I was so busy at the door, and the crowd was so dense, I could never really get in the room and find a good position to take the pics that I wanted to get. This was a huge music party… If anyone has any photos from the show, please send me a link: sean@seancarnage.com
This coming Monday, we’re gonna do it all again, except twice as big and twice as ROCK!

Hey Buddy & the Pals
June has been a cornucopia of delights for new music fans. Each week so far, Josh Taylor (of Friends Forever and Foot Village) and Kyle Mabson (Monday Night/Smell soundman/DJ extraordinaire, bass pro) have presented a new band. That means they’ve been writing, rehearsing, and performing a new set each week—not an easy task!
Taylor and Mabson have also been booking all the bands—a veritable who’s who of the underground scene here in SoCal.
This week, they collaborate with Randy Randall of No Age in a fantabulous new band called COCKPIT. Expect heavy heavy rock action.
Also, Quem Quaeritis (R.I.P.) fans will be overjoyed to see Quem band members John Thill *and* American Gil & the Major Dudes on the same bill. Will they get together for some old favorites?
If you consider yourself to be on the vanguard of new sounds, you owe it to yourself to be at this show!!!

Josh Taylor and Kyle Mabson are geniuses. So is Narwhalz—and Peter Moran. And then there’s Infinite Body and Moment Trigger… Yep, they’re geniuses, too. This past Monday embodied what cutting-edge music & expression is all about.
And for those of you who missed it, we’re upping the ante this Monday with what promises to be a “who’s who” of “who gives a shit” about new music. Miss this one at your own peril. Seriously—tonite’s bash is one for the ages.

See you there?
Below are photos from the phenomenal Anavan show this past Monday! I am off to NYC in just a couple of hours, so I will write more later… But astute observers will notice that the Voodoo Organist is not in the pics below. That’s because he’s in the hospital, and in pretty serious condition. I hope he gets better soon. Everyone at the show this past Monday night missed him terribly and we all wish Scott a speedy recovery.
Special thanks to all the performers (I even got in on the act… cccrazy!), especially Mitchell Brown who came through in a big way (once again).
