IL CORRAL’S TURN THE SCREWS FEST, PART IV: THE FINALE

A big shout out to Bob Bellerue, Christie Scott and Stane (and Burgess and Cory) for organizing this AMAZING noise fest.

Part IV was the dramatic conclusion to the whole weekend.

I showed 40 BANDS 80 MINUTES! at 6pm and friend & former neighbor Cathie came down to see it. It was so fucking great to see her! I can’t tell you how many times she saved my life with a nugget of kush or a shoulder to cry on.

About 10 people stayed for the whole showing. I had never met any of them before. I sold four DVDs at the end, so this was a very successful screening. Hopefully these folks will take the DVD back to their towns and spread the word. Quality music needs all the help it can get.

Photo highlights are below. Treasure Mammal (from Phoenix) was a stand out. They will be coming to Il Corral Monday nights in 2007 so watch for that.

I can’t wait for the next noise fest! I am sad that this has ended… What a phenomenal experience!!!!

OK Audience! This was a “noise potluck” where the performers played any junk the audience brought in….. fucking brilliant.

TURN THE SCREWS FEST, PART III—NOISE PANCAKES!

Ok, so the show went until 4:15am the night before. Then, everyone got up and came back to Il Corral at 12noon on Sunday for vegan pancakes and thrashing noise!

This was SO MUCH FUN!!! Damn, we gotta do this again, right!?

I was a bit late (I was sick and needed sleep… then the damn bus kept passing me by) and I only got photos of Beach Balls (aka Kyle and Bill… two of my most fun, intelligent & thoughtful music fanatic friends). They played in the corridor by the bathroom. This was an amazing burst of noisy fun. Enjoy the pics!

TURN THE SCREWS FEST, PART II AT IL CORRAL!

Part II of Turn The Screws Fest was an absolutely incredible night. I have never seen so many people at Il Corral!

Aaron Dilloway, formerly of Wolf Eyes, seemed to be the main draw. Interestingly, Aaron was also in the Flying Luttenbachers for a hot minute and I had just seen the Luttenbachers’ Weasel Walter at the Echo. Too bad these guys couldn’t have teamed up again, eh?

This was another night where I was having so much fun, I forgot to take photos!

Anyhow, enjoy the pics below. I think they capture the best of the night.

TWO SHOWS ON ONE NITE! 1ST SHOW: XBXRX, NUMBERS & NI-NAO AT THE ECHO

Saturday was a great night for music and I was able to catch XBXRX, Numbers & Ni-Nao from Japan at the Echo before heading over to Il Corral for Turn The Screws Fest.

The attendance at the Echo was pretty sparse. The promoter didn’t put any local bands on the bill. Also, the show had to end by 10pm and I think that killed it. Most shows don’t start until then. Anyhow, it was no reflection on the bands—they put on an awesome show.

Hopefully these bands will come to Il Corral next time!?

I’ve been friends with XBXRX and their drummer Weasel Walter (also of the Flying Luttenbachers) for many years, and it was great to see them. I think their music is some of the best happening. Cheers to you, guys, and I hope I see you again soon!

IL CORRAL “SCREWS” FEST HUGE SUCCESS; DON’T MISS PART II TONITE!!!

Il Corral’s Turn The Screws Fest is freaking incredible.

The night got started with awesome videos. I really like the ones by Todd Novasad, Christopher Cichocki and Tarantism.

Then, the live music began. First up: Grux from Rubber-O-Cement bashing around with an 11-foot pole thingy. He went outside, attacked cars, photographers, and, when he came back in, the members of Bastard Noise. That resulted in a shouting match with the Bastards and cries of “Faggot!” etc.

Although this violent outburst unsettled a lot of people, really, if something crazy hadn’t happened right away, Turn The Screws Fest would have been a boring affair.

No danger of being bored at Il Corral!

Kilt was awesome but I ran video for them so I couldn’t take any photos.

Bastard Noise orchestrated brooding, taut, haunting noise and soundscapes for about 20 minutes.

I got kinda wasted at this point and I forget the names of all the bands. I had an ozone treatment from Dr. Willy’s Nerve Clinic. Christie tried it, too. I feel surprisingly great today, despite my partying and having a cold. Ozone works!

Moment Trigger was all hair and awesomeness. I think they may be my favorite of the whole night.

AMK slayed, as usual, with four record players and umpteen dozen flexi-discs. They really jam, and they look like they are having fun, too, so they’re highly entertaining to watch.

The last dude I got to see before I got a ride home was The Widow. If I mis-identified photos, please send me a msg: sean@seancarnage.com

Don’t miss 40 BANDS 80 MINUTES! tomorrow at 6pm.

Tonite’s Turn the Screws schedule is white-hot and you KNOW there’s NO WAY I’m gonna miss vegan pancakes and Beach Ballz tomorrow at brunch.

Enjoy the photos. I’m gonna see XBXRX early this evening with Richmond, but I will meet you at the Corral later on. Cheers!

xo

It was really hard to photo Grux. The only way I can describe his costume is imagine the trash in the Star Wars trash compactor scene getting up and walking around.
