NEW PHOTOS: ABE VIGODA, NEW BLOODS, ALEXIS, QUERENT, VAGINALS & TRANDREW

This show rocked. Abe Vigoda’s music was so powerfully clear and amazing—wow! Trandrew, Vaginals, Alexis and Querent were also phenomenal.

The only thing that was not fun about this show was knowing that this was to be our last at Il Corral.

I think we went out on top.

Thanks to all the bands and friends who stuck with me. This was the best send-off I could have hoped for. I know a lot of people didn’t even realize what was happening, but it meant a lot to me that we could focus and have such a great show!!!

I told Trandrew I thought he did “folk music”… then he wrote a song about it!

Jenna baked another delicious cake. This time: a turtle theme for her Mom’s b-day!! Thanks for celebrating with us :)

PHOTOS: ANAVAN, LACO$TE, FLASPAR, SMOOTH GROOVES & MORE ROCKING LAST SUNDAY NIGHT!

Kyle’s show sure was a lot of fun. With Anavan, Laco$te, Flaspar, A++, Smooth Grooves and Fortress of Amplitude, I think it’s safe to say that this was the best show of the year so far!! (Unfortunately, I was running a bit late and did not get not get pictures of A++, but later on in the night, they jammed with Smooth Grooves. That was the best part!)

Enjoy!!!

40 BANDS 80 MINUTES! GETS ITS BEST REVIEW YET

Check this out: 40 BANDS 80 MINUTES! got its best review to date, on the superawesome blog 20 JAZZ FUNK GREATS.

Read it: http://20jazzfunkgreats.blogspot.com/2007/02/faster-faster.html

“The other day I saw these kids playing so fast they finished before they began, they totally sounded backwards. WHAM!

You know how 20jazzfunkgreats posts a bigger share of 8+ minute long tracks than most other blogs out there, excluding mixes that would only demonstrate our non-existent DJing ‘skills’/artificial Ableton skills. But we like it short too. Because, paraphrasing E.E. Cummings, we are abnormally fond of that conciseness which creates direction, also exemplified by The Eternal Question And Inmortal Answer of Burlesk, ‘Would you hit a woman with a child?- no, I’d hit her with a brick’. WHAM!

So let’s get on with business.

Last Saturday I watched this DVD sent all the way from California by the kind guys at Sounds Are Active, it’s called ‘40 Bands 80 Minutes!’ and it’s one of the most hysterical things I ever seen, viz. 40 bands playing in 80 minutes in this experimental venue in LA called II Corral, yeah, 2 minutes per band, erm, WHAM.

On top of having some ace performances by the likes of Abe Vigoda, HEALTH, Captain Ahab, Wives, Nosajthing and many more, most of which I didn’t know, I was blown away by the exhilarating collective energy the whole event projected, total diversity and whatevs styles with only a common denominator, ‘Do Your Own Thing, and Care’. Totally sweet, fresh and healthy, someone in London should do something similar, although given the levels of band rivalry one sees this side of the pond the whole thing would probably end up in a bloodbath, which perhaps wouldn’t be such a bad thing, as long as the good ‘uns won. Nah we’re joking we love everyone.

Bands were playing on the floor as well, just like the Do, post-punk egalitarianism is where it’s at.

So yeah, order it here, you know it’s good for you.

The theme tune for the DVD provided by Alaskan super-hero GSL mavericks Anavan (myspace) is a grand snarly nugget of ferocious noise-pop that bounces rapid against that this there wall with the psychic force of Oneida compressed to the size of an atom and shot from the CERN particle accelerator in the definitive game of molecular dweeb bowling. WHAM. Strike, better than Jesus.”
