Underground music mavens Thurston Moore and Byron Coley have picked 40 BANDS 80 MINUTES! as the BEST of 2006. Wow!

Here’s what they wrote:

“40 BANDS 80 MINUTES! DVD - director: Sean Carnage (Sounds Are Active) Pretty interesting concept - 40 L.A. bands playing 2 minute (max) sets at some place in Hollywood. The music’s all over the map and most of it’s pretty good, but even the lousy stuff is over fast, so what the heck? So underground that the “big name” bands are on the order of Abe Vigoda and Fireworks . Anyway, what’s the deal on this trio, The Amazements ? Their tune came off like a cross between Demo Moe & the Cheater Slicks. Nice.”

Also on the Bull Tongue BEST OF 2006 list is the new band from Cleveland’s Lean Steve, the former singer/keyboardist of my old band, Razak Solar System. Woo-hoo!

Steve was kind enough to hook me up with a DVD of my current obsession, STUNT ROCK, when I was in Cleveland last week for the 40 BANDS! premiere there.

I am really excited about my show at Pehr Space tonight, and I wanted to tell you about it.

DESTROY TOKYO… this is a Robin Williams On Fire side project band that mixes their spazz/noise with more ambient textures

TINHORN JUSTICE… Cory Beers has put together this ensemble to play “THE BLACK PAGE” by FRANK ZAPPA… obviously, this took a lot of time & practice to work out SO DON’T MISS IT!

I HEART LUNG… I’ve spent the last few weeks traveling with 40 BANDS 80 MINUTES!, and one of the bands that everyone goes crazy for is this smoking hot gtr/drums duo from Long Beach

DOE… Friends of RWOF…. This is the harsh IDM you’ve been craving! Dance like a maniac.

BITTER HOMES & GARDENS… Deep Jew Jeff hooked us up with this punishing noise band from Bloomington, Indiana… prepare to be blown away!

MODERNSTATE… Incredible, shifting guitar textures characterize this new group from Portland that I know you will love!
