NEW PHOTOS: HEALTH, ROBIN WILLIAMS ON FIRE, SMOOTH GROOVES, HUMAN HANDS, WEAK SISTERS, & SPELLCASTER AT THE SMELL!!!

The show at the Smell left a big smile on my face. There was a little earthquake when I got home (seriously—4.5 on the Richter scale!), but I didn’t worry ‘cuz I had just seen/heard/been part of one the most amazing nights of music ever!!

Kyle Mabson deserves a lotta credit for that. He organized the concert and even played in two of the bands. KYLE MABSON KYLE MABSON KYLE MABSON KYLE MABSON KYLE MABSON. Yep. He’s the best.

Jim Smith was a terrific host, as usual. He deserves a lotta credit, too.

But the thing that overwhelmed me the most—besides the awesome songs from Health, Robin Williams On Fire, Smooth Grooves and the psychedelic noise of Human Hands, Weak Sisters, and Spellcaster—was the audience of friends and diehard music fans.

L.A. truly has something special going on, whether anyone realizes it or not.

I realize it! I feel it at the Pehr shows and Kyle’s shows and the Smell and House of Vermont and just about any show that this incredible group of music fans are at. It’s a special community—surpassing any other I’ve been a part of. There’s no snobbery or any of that crap. And the music is weird weird weird. And everyone’s so into it! (That’s ‘cuz it’s good.)

Appreciate what we’ve got. Go out there and take it all in and be a part of it because this is something rare and special.

Fuck getting permission from anyone or anybody.

WOW—WHAT A GREAT SECOND BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR SEAN CARNAGE MONDAY NIGHTS!!! NEW PHOTOS… AND DON’T MISS THE PARTY THIS MONDAY NIGHT (UPDATED INFO BELOW)!!!!

Damn—Los Angeles is an amazing place and I am so thankful to be here. The inspiration I get from my Monday Night music friends is what keeps me going through the good and the bad. We are celebrating our second anniversary all month, and I couldn’t be happier!!!

Here’s a brief re-cap: Foot Foot is at Pehr every Monday in August so don’t miss ‘em! They are among the best bands in L.A. with their rocking, noisy, melodic and well-constructed songs. In short, they are stimulating as far as underground art goes, and they are MUSICAL, too (gasp!). Their performance this past Monday was a tour-de-force.

Au was also magnificent. They delivered, in the words of Professor Cantaloupe, the “best performance I’VE EVER SEEN.” Strong praise, coming from the Prof. (I concur.)

Amps for Christ was sublime, and got the show off to a great start.

DJ Kyle did a great job (he even threw in some jumpstyle loops), and Jon and Richmond and all our friends were there. Pehrspace is the best, and HOW ABOUT THAT CROWD!? Damn damn damn. So great!

ONE NIGHT, TWO GREAT SHOWS: OSCAR SANTOS & “L.A.’S GREATEST MUSICIANS” AT 1830, AND DON BOLLES’ BIRTHDAY EXTRAVAGANZA FEAT. PAUL ROESSLER, NORA KEYES, & A CAST OF THOUSANDS!!!

Saturday night I decided to experience two relatively new venues in Echo Park, 1830 (next to the Echo) and The Cog (behind Barker’s Marionette Theater). I had a fantastic time, the music was great and I partied until dawn!

1830… What a great place! There were so many musicians playing… The roof was a fun place to hang out, too.

SHOW #2!!! Next, I went over to The Cog, which is on Glendale Blvd. and run by the nice people in the band Hard Place. Here are Darcey and Lily at the door… Just like old times at Club Screwball!

This place was also packed… and hot and crazy. Woo! Fun!!

Paul Roessler… he was in the Screamers and 45 Grave, among other classic L.A. bands…. nice guy, too.

This band was really great… I hope this is not just a one-time deal

SEAN CARNAGE MONDAYS TWO-YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY THIS WEEK W/ FOOT FOOT & FRIENDS!!! PLUS: NEW PHOTOS OF THE MAE SHI, BON VOYAGE, TREASURE MAMMAL, & BOB BELLERUE

The Mae Shi tour benefit show this past Monday night was a-MAZ-ing. The music—from the Mae Shi, Bon Voyage, Treasure Mammal, & Bob Bellerue—was transcendental. The crowd was large and enthusiastic—they were totally into the music! DJ Paula Poundstone set the mood superbly with his records and DJ Kyle created his usual dance floor orgy at the end… all with the help of a little white digital box… See what I mean? AMAZING!
