NEW SHOW & NEW PHOTOS: A THIRST FOR BLOOD ROCKIN IN MY DICK, ALEXIS GIDEON, CARCRASHLANDER, & KID INFINITY!!!

27.jpg
This was a rad, rad show at the end of a long and wild holiday weekend. I think everyone was pretty much like me—totally pooped—but we all drew together for one last hurrah… and it was a marvelous night.

Kid Infinity is an up-and-coming MC and DJ combo (with Erik Anaya on lights—rad!), and Ryan (the MC) has some great songs and pretty stylin’ delivery. I already booked them again for October 27th, so get your dancing shoes ready!

Carcrashlander probably would be the kind of band you would more likely encounter in a bar. They are from Portland, are a bit older, play like pros, and they rip out some loud cryin’-in-your-brew kinda songs. But what sets them apart is the amazing range of emotions they conjure up with their songs—and their tendency toward jarring dissonance. I was very very impressed by these guys. They took a style that’s kinda more mainstream, and injected it with a ton of originality. Kudos!

Alexis Gideon played guitar with Carcrashlander and, geez, why is this guy not the #1 guitar player in America!? He fucking rocks!!

Alexis was up again after that with his new “video opera”—a twenty minute story that he animated and then sings and plays live. Wow! Sooo incredible on every front. Alexis did a Monday Night residency last year when he lived in L.A., so it was great to see/hear him again. He is a superb individual, and he should be really proud of his newest creation. The audience was spellbound.

Last up was the new noise supergroup A Thirst for Blood Rockin in My Dick featuring Kyle Mabson and Cole from Cock in Black, Doug from Birth!, and Narin from Narin. This was the rambunctious, punishing, take-no-prisoners “bro noise” that has been so lacking lately on the scene (since the demise of Deep Jew, etc.). These four screamed and yelled and punched and kicked and shoved and rolled on the floor, totally annoying everyone (in a great way). Yeah… ATFBRIMD=awesome.

This Monday, we are gonna get really freaky. So bring your lover, take off your clothes, and shake your nappy dreadlocks to the powerful NOISE…

MONDAY NIGHT AT THE PRESTIGIOUS HOUSE OF VERMONT!!!

Last Monday, Feb 26th was my first non-Il Corral show in a number of months, and I want to thank each and every person who came out and rocked with us.

This was a killer fucking show!!!! Alexis Gideon, Whitman (and friends… does that make them Whitmen?), Nicky Click, Diamond Beats, The Pristines, and Weekend Warrior were too rad for words. DJ Martyr Mystery (aka William Caruso) kept us all boogeying, so thank you to him, too!

I had a huge smile on my face when I got on the plane to Cleveland after the show. This was one of the best nights I have ever hosted :)

Thank you, Dustin, and the How To Be A Microwave collective for allowing us to party at your place!

The performers deserve a lot of credit. They sounded great and I appreciate them sticking with the show.

Check out the photos below.

And don’t miss the first Monday Night at Pehrspace (325 Glendale Blvd, in Echo Park) this Monday, March 5th.

Peace!

NEW PHOTOS: ABE VIGODA, NEW BLOODS, ALEXIS, QUERENT, VAGINALS & TRANDREW

This show rocked. Abe Vigoda’s music was so powerfully clear and amazing—wow! Trandrew, Vaginals, Alexis and Querent were also phenomenal.

The only thing that was not fun about this show was knowing that this was to be our last at Il Corral.

I think we went out on top.

Thanks to all the bands and friends who stuck with me. This was the best send-off I could have hoped for. I know a lot of people didn’t even realize what was happening, but it meant a lot to me that we could focus and have such a great show!!!

NEW PHOTOS & SHOW REPORT: TOTALLY! GAY NIGHT!!!

Sorry for the delay in posting. It’s been a crazy week. More about that below.

St. Valentine’s Gay was a MONSTROUSLY FUN party thanks to [in no particular order—everyone helped out so much]: Chef Joshua (for the yummiest food… ever!?), Margot & Totally! Mag, Kyle, Christie, Burgess, Stane, Omega, Bret, Cory, Jon, & Brittney.

The music—courtesy of Robin Williams On Fire, Macka, Alexis Gideon, Kate & Elijah (& friends), and the Pristines—was totally flipped-out and rockin’!!!!

The attendance by L.A. area music fans—including a large number of queer ones (woo-hoo!!)—was overwhelming.

It was great to see all my friends, esp. those I haven’t seen in awhile. THAT was the biggest Valentine treat.

+++A FEW ISSUES+++

Switching gears for a second…

There were some incidents that happened Monday night that are not acceptable. Everything’s cool right now—but, moving forward, know that:

-Il Corral is not a crash pad. Expecting the Il Corral people to let you crash there after a show is the ultimate faux-pas. Have an exit strategy before you arrive.

-No entry if you are already drunk and/or have an open container in your hand when you arrive at the door.

-No drinking outside. Period. Even “slip-ups” get Il Corral into trouble. There’s no second chance with the cops.

-The Il Corral renters provide chairs, tables, a sink, dishes, the roof over our heads, working plumbing, etc. If they weren’t so generous, Il Corral would just be a name and a bunch of dates on a calendar. Let’s not screw up their stuff or their space.

Although St. Valentine’s was an aesthetic and social success, after all the destruction there wasn’t anything left but a stinky pile of shattered glass. Our legacy at Il Corral has got to be something other than that.

My fundraiser instigated some of the aggro behavior, and I take responsibility for that. (Sadly, after all the aforementioned breakage, the funds raised barely covered expenses. So I’m still looking for money to take 40 BANDS! on tour. This whole thing totally came back to bite me on the ass.)

Anyhow, I was mulling over these issues as I was walking back to my apartment yesterday afternoon… And someone shot me!

Seriously.

The projectile only grazed the back of my arm—so I’m okay, no serious damage. I just have a bloody welt.

But this incident—on top of getting robbed at gunpoint of all my money outside of Faultline just the other night—has really bummed me out.

I realize that these events are only tangential to the Il Corral situation (the two crimes perpetrated on me were *NOT* at Il Corral, nor were they on a Monday, nor was I wasted). But they are additional reminders to cool things down a little bit. We gotta be aware when we leave the Corral, or there could be a tragedy, and I couldn’t live with that.

Anyhow, know that Monday nights will continue, though we are going to avoid the gratuitous destruction. The music is what matters, and ST. VALENTINE’S GAY proves we have a great thing going.

THIS MONDAY, February 19th: Abe Vigoda, The New Bloods (Back again! From Portland), Alexis Gideon’s Levitation #3, Querent (Brooklyn, NY) and Trandrew (Andrew from 14-Year-Old Girls!).

Starts 9:30pm / all-ages / $5
