Monday Night re-cap: Do not panic!

Whoa Monday Night was really fun! And I’m not just saying that ‘cuz I got to rock with Cockwind.

From the first band—Western Popular—through each successive act—Dwyer’s Corneas and then Daniel Francis Doyle—the audience was right there, jamming along with each performer. People were dancing (raging, actually) to Kyle Mabson’s mix too…thanks for being there—I won’t ever forget this past Monday!

Western Popular are long time Monday Nighters Shane, Natalie and Dagger (who resurfaced out of the blue it seems and wailed on the drumpads). Sounding like My Bloody Valentine in a duel to the death with Last Exit, Western Popular was relentlessly powerful and spacey and compelling. I was into this big time.

Dwyer’s Corneas had another Monday lifer—Alph—and sounded like Kid Infinity..crossed with Led Zeppelin! Sort of smart/confrontational dance music with iconic guitar eruptions. Nice.

As you know, I am a huge Daniel Francis Doyle fan. I think this was his best performance in L.A. to date. Doyle seemed totally plugged into his musical world. Nothing distracted him. Every note pulsed and grooved, and Dan’s singing was particularly vulnerable and affecting this night. I think that it must be hard to push yourself into ever-new musical territory when you are a one man band. Dan Doyle does not have that problem. The emotional/psycchological/musical frontier was wide open.

And then Cockwind took flight. All the guys and I really appreciated having the opportunity to bring a lil’ taste of Hawkwind to you.

Make sure to check out Cockwind’s Ultimate Hawkwind videos. (You can also read about Cockwind in Butt.)
