Cold Mold: Duos do it best

Future Islands and XBXRX at The Smell this past Saturday night…You may have seen that huge show. But did you catch Cold Mold?

This boy/girl duo was one of the openers, and they totally blew me away. They were like country/noise/prog—like country-fried Ruins. Or Greased Lightning Bolt?

Anyhow, whenever a group makes me think about music in a totally new way, that’s a band to pay attention to.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present you Cold Mold.

Cold Mold were pretty life-changing when I saw them. Tonight I’m so excited to turn YOU onto them at Pehrspace.

Formed from the ashes of Monday Night stars Attractive & Popular, Cold Mold have the chops and the originality to make even the most seasoned music fan go “YEE HAW!” This is not something you hear everyday…

Hey Cold Mold! What are your names and ages and where do you live?
Cold Mold is Anna Wingfield, 23, and Bobby Missile, 27.  We live in beautiful Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas!

When did you guys form and start playing music?
We started playing music together about two years ago, but just began writing Cold Mold songs three months ago.

How would you describe your musical aesthetic to a stranger?
Weird, spazzy rock.

Who writes your songs or is it a collabo?
Its totally collab.  We both write our own parts, and work together to write lyrics.

What are your main musical influences?
Radio country

Do duos really do it better?
YES! Duos also make touring a lot easier.

Is your 2-piece line-up a reaction against playing in larger ensembles?
Not really.  We are just dating and it’s convenient.

What is your favorite duo of all time?
Local H.

Who have been the best bands you’ve played with recently?
XBXRX, Future Islands, When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth, and Bastard Noise have all been super great bands to play with so far.

What’s your favorite song on the radio right now and why?
We listen to radio country a lot, but have no idea who the artists are or the names of any songs.  Unless its Randy Travis or Garth Brooks.

If you could teach the world to sing, what song would you teach them?
“Way down yonder on the chattahoochee, it gets hotter than a hoochie coochie” OR “Amazing Grace.”
